G2 TestG1 practice test

Driving lessons

Find a driving school near you

A couple of lessons with an instructor who knows your test centre’s area can be the difference on test day. A Ministry-approved beginner driver education (BDE) course also lets you take your G2 road test after 8 months instead of 12. Tell us what you need and we’ll email you driving schools that serve your area.

Your details go only to the driving schools we send your request to, and to us so we can reply. See the privacy page. BDE rules from DriveTest’s car licences page.

Questions people ask

+Is a BDE course worth it?

It’s optional. It cuts the G1 wait from 12 months to 8. The course also teaches skills the road test checks.

+Do I need a driving school to take my road test?

No. You can take the test in any Class G vehicle in good working order, owned, borrowed or rented. Many people book a lesson anyway so they can use the instructor’s car on test day.

+How do I know a driving school is approved?

The Ministry of Transportation lists approved beginner driver education schools on ontario.ca. Only approved courses count for the shorter wait.

+What does this cost me?

Nothing. We pass your request to driving schools near you; you deal with them directly.
